Creator(s): Musée des Abénakis
The Abenakis were ideal guides for the hunting and fishing clubs that emerged in the Mauricie in the late 19th century. As the clubs were built on ancestral lands, the Aboriginal people had invaluable knowledge of the rivers and portages, and of where to find various fish and wildlife species.
Discover the world of the odowinno
This exhibit tells the story of these men who, over the years, had to give up their traditional way of life to seek out new sources of revenue. It presents their work, anecdotes and life in Odanak, their native village. Embark on a journey of discovery to the world of the odowinno, an Abenaki word meaning guide or admirable person.
