For many Canadians, 1867 was a year of celebration. For others, however, it was a year of crisis. Unexpectedly deprived of federal funding, some public hospitals were forced to close. This is the story of Kingston General Hospital, and the community that rose up in its support, at a time when public health was still an ill-defined concept.
