Creator(s): Haida Heritage and Repatriation Society
The Haida Memories exhibit casts light on the rich heritage of the northern Haida from Haida Gwaii, British Columbia. Ancient Haida society, matrilineal in structure, was traditionally divided into two clans, the Ravens and the Eagles. Families with common ancestry formed lineages and inherited property, titles, names, crests, masks and songs. There are 15 such lineages, each with its own myths, histories and cultural heroes. Their stories are told with the help of thousands of photographs generously shared for this exhibit by over two dozen community members and organizations.
