Port Moody May Days

Creator(s): Port Moody Station Museum

Originally the ancient Roman celebration "Floralia", May Day became a custom when the province of British Columbia was colonized, but the occasion was honoured with unusual enthusiasm in Port Moody from 1930 to 1972. The citizenry of Port Moody organized lavish parades, elected its very own May Day royalty and ever-observed the celebration's pomp and ceremony. May Queens became local youth ambassadors, representing their communities at other May Day Parades.
