The Heart of a Village: The Story of Watson's Mill and Manotick
Watson's Mill
Manotick , Ontario

Enter

On the banks of the Rideau
River in Manotick, Ontario
stands Watson's Mill, the
waters of the west channel
turning the massive stone
wheel that grinds wheat into
flour as it has for nearly
150 years. Watson's Mill is
one of the finest examples of
a 19th century working

gristmill in the world, an
extremely popular historical
landmark and tourist
attraction.
   This Community Memories
Exhibit captures the spirit
of the unique village that
grew up around Watson's Mill
in stories from residents of
the people, places and events

that shaped Manotick. The
exhibit also presents a
picture of life in Manotick
as it is now from the
perspective of the children
who now live in the former
village, amalgamated into the
City of Ottawa in 2000.
   In 2009 Manotick will
celebrate its 150th

anniversary and the creation
of its new cultural centre,
Dickinson Square.
