According to official statistics 56,037 persons emigrated from 1835 to 1890 from the Bavarian Swabia. That amounts to about 10 percent of the total population.

Where did these Bavarian Swabians emigrate to in the 19th century?

The emigration destination of almost 5,000 Swabians is known through a research project of the Swabian Research Association, of the University of Augsburg and of the German Research Foundation (especially through the work of Dr. Peter Maidl). The second most important emigration destination after the USA was Canada with 31 known emigrants.
