John By Completes Construction of Canal

The Commissariat 3D Reconstruction Project is a digital recreation of the Rideau Canal's picturesque Ottawa Locks site and Commissariat Building (now the Bytown Museum) as they appeared when the Canal was first opened in 1832.  The Commissariat Project is a joint project between the Bytown Museum and the National Research Council Canada, funded by the Virtual Museum of Canada.

The outcome of this project is a ten-minute animation, based solely on images and drawings from the Canal construction period.  You can download the animation in various formats by clicking here.  If you are not able to view the downloads, click here for a photo gallery and accompanying text or read the transcript of the animation.
