The Force in the North

Honour Roll

Many Mounties who served in the North would end up retiring there or elsewhere, with their memories of adventure and danger behind them. Many Mounties, however, never got that chance. They gave their lives to the Force in the North when they were killed in the line of duty. They are noted below in memorium.

Killed on July 13, 1963, in an RCMP aircraft which crashed and burned when attempting to land at Carmacks, Yukon.

ASBIL, Cpl. Robert William  19626
Killed on July 13, 1963, in an RCMP aircraft which crashed and burned when attempting to land at Carmacks, Yukon.

BUDAY, Cst. Michael J.  33631
Killed at Teslin Lake, British Columbia on March 19, 1985 while attempting to apprehend Michael Oros.

CAMPBELL, Cst. Norman M.   2972
Drowned in the Stikine River, Alaska, while on patrol from northern British Columbia, on December 26, 1901.

CARTER, S/Cst. Samuel
Died with the McPherson-Dawson patrol in February, 1911.

FITZGERALD, Insp. Francis Joseph
Died from starvation, exposure and exhaustion while a member of the McPherson-Dawson patrol in February, 1911.

FITZGERALD, Cst. Michael J.  3617
Drowned in the White River, Yukon, on August 27, 1913.

HADDOCK, Cpl. Alexander G.  2836
Drowned in the Yukon River near Ogilvie, Yukon, while on patrol June 14, 1906.

HEATHCOTE, Cst. Spencer G.  3463
Drowned in the Stikine River, Alaska, while on patrol from northern British Columbia, on December 26, 1901.

KINNEY, Cst. George Francis  4582
Died with the McPherson-Dawson patrol in February, 1911.

LAMONT, Cst. Alexander  5548
Died at Herschel Island, Yukon, on February 16, 1918, from typhoid fever contracted while nursing Viljalmur Stefansson, the Arctic explorer.

LAUGHLAND, Sgt. Kenneth Morley  17368
Killed on July 13, 1963, in an RCMP aircraft which crashed and burned when attempting to land at Carmacks, Yukon.

MALCOLM, Cst. Proctor Lawrence Anthony  18570
Killed on July 13, 1963, in an RCMP aircraft which crashed and burned when attempting to land at Carmacks, Yukon.

McLACHLAN, Cst. Mark  31962
Killed in a vehicle collision on February 2, 1979 on the Klondike Highway while returning to Pelly Crossing detachment from court duties at Whitehorse.

MILLEN, Cst. Edgar  9669
Killed near Rat River, NWT, on January 30, 1932, while attempting to apprehend Albert Johnson, a fugitive from justice.

SAM, S/ Cst. Stick
Drowned when fording Kaskawulsh River, Yukon, while on patrol, on July 29, 1903.

SUNDELL, Cst. C.L.  18165
Accidentally shot on July 14, 1958, at HerschelIsland, Yukon, while on duty.

TAYLOR, Cst. Richard O.H.  4346
Died with the McPherson-Dawson patrol in February, 1911.
