The Land, the People and the Industries all have ties to the history of hydroelectric development in the region. Without the land shaped as it is- the dams could not be built. The need for electricity was driven by industry which in turn was driven by people looking for ways to develop the land. The stories of the land, people and industry illustrate what drove the development, why it happened and its costs and benefits, to both the land and the people.

As communities grew and more people moved into the area, changes occurred in the use of the land - from adapting to the restrictions of living in the steep walled valley bottoms to altering the land to provide the increasing demands of energy consumption.
