I saw the first snowflakes this morning, November 3rd. The barn roof is already completely covered. I can't wait to use my sled and play hockey with my friends. Myself, I'm glad to see the snow, and so are the little ones. Mama, she doesn't like winter. It's a depressing season for her...whole days cooped up in the house with the babies are not always fun. It's not like in summer when there's always a thousand things to do outside.

The day before yesterday was November 11, Remembrance Day. This day represents the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice of the 1914-18 war in Europe. A few people from Notre Dame went to fight overseas at the side of cousins they left behind in their native country. A few of them even died over there. We had a mass at church to remember them and to thank heaven that the war is over. We hope there won't ever be another one.

My mother's brother left for France in 1915 to join up in the war of 1914-1918. He was lucky and he came back safe and sound. He kept his soldier's uniform. When we ask him questions about his experiences in the war, he always changes the subject. I think his memories of war must be very bad.

Mama knitted each of her kids a wool sweater and socks that will help keep us warm over winter. She makes the wool herself.

To make the wool, it must first be washed. The fibres are then untangled with cards to produce a finer and even thread. Carding separates the fibres from grass and thorns. Finally, the spinning wheel pulls, spins and winds the fibre that will be used mostly for weaving, knitting, crochet, embroidery and lace making.

At home, we have a sewing machine that Mama ordered from Eaton's. She uses it often to make us nice clothes. She is now making baby clothes for our future little brother or sister. I hope it will be a little brother...

This evening, we went to play cards at the church hall. I just love those evenings! My friends are there and we play tricks on people while we wait for the show to begin. A pretty young miss with a beautiful voice sang some songs for the audience.
