In 1945 Mr Allan Blimkie saw the need for a Dairy as the population of the area grew with the construction of the Research Center at Chalk River and the building of the Dam at Rolphton. He built a dairy known as the Chalk River Dairy on property situated about 500 yards from the corner of Wilson and Main Street near the present day Canadian Legion Hall. Part of the Legion Hall was originally part of the Dairy setup. For two or three years cows were housed in a portion of the building. Wood fires were used to heat water to make steam which was needed for pasteurization. At that time Chalk River had no fire protection and the building burned in 1954. Mr Blimkie was offered a good sum of money from a Dairy Company in Pembroke not to rebuild his business, but he decided to build again , however this time in Deep River (re-named Laurentian View Dairy) where he had a good business established already. Over the next 60 years the Dairy operated as a family business employing a total of 10 family members. Dairy products were delivered door to door from Rolphton to Chalk River as well as being available in the local food stores and the Dairy bar. On 4 Feb. 1985 this building was destroyed by fire and was rebuilt on the same location , 33387 Hwy 17. In 2012 the Laurentian View Dairy was sold to the Tracy Brothers of Renfrew. In 2014 the dairy closed.
