from several sources-
In 1925 the H.M. Klassen home that had been converted to Herbert's first hospital burned down and the John F.D. Wiebe home became the hospital. Both of these first hospitals were private hospitals. During the 1930's the need for a community hospital was evident and the John Funk residence was purchased and was the community hospital until 1959.

In 1933 Tom Holmes built a home on the foundation of the H.M. Klassen home/Hospital in the style of a miniature castle, to resemble the architecture he had known as a boy in England.

from a writing by Olga M. (Jahnke) Wiebe
"Four months after I married Herbert Wiebe he became mayor of Herbert. I was only twenty-two years old and he was mayor all but one year of our married life. ...
During the dirty thirties the town council experienced many difficulties. Their meetings were often long and the work arduous. This meant I was alone a lot. In 1939 the Second World War broke out and my husband became a lieutenant officer in the Herbert reserve army. This activity created more hours away from home."

The newspaper article in Southwest Section on October 24, 1953 ...

"Impressive though the story of the British diplomat may be, it somehow seems to fall short of the inspiring story of a young prarie real estate agent who travelled the world, came back to his home town and became mayor -- for 28 years.

If future generations of Herbertans want to think the town was named after Herbert Wiebe, who would deny it?"
