Ben and Anna Redekop raised five children. The oldest, Ruth, entered the teaching profession and completed the last 25 years of her teaching career in Herbert where she still resides. She, like her mother, served on the community ladies' auxiliary, numerous church committees and headed the Heritage Association for a number of years.

The next in line was Bill. I followed in my father's footsteps in business and community involvement, serving on the school board for 10 years and 25 years on Town Council. Twenty of the years on Town Council were served as Mayor.

The third member, Lois, was gifted in music and painting using those talents in a life of service. The fourth member, Helen, together with her husband spent 40 years in several South American countries as missionaries. Their ministry was mainly in the field of education, teaching in seminaries and also in a university. Helen and her husband have retired to Herbert.

Wally, the fifth member, is well known around the world and has been honoured by the Agricultural Institute of Canada. Wally's leadership in agricultureal and rural development projects has taken him to every corner of the globe. He resides in Ottawa

B.F. Redekop served on the Canadian Mennonite Board of Colonization, the body that worked with the government and transportation agencies which were immigration facilitators. The efforts of this Board resulted in the immigration of over 2000 Mennonites from Russia, with a large percentage settling in the Herbert district. When these people arrived, B.F. assisted many of them to get established on their own homesteads.

During my twenty years as Mayor of Herbert, Herbert received a new High School, the streets were paved, and a new Town Hall and a new Sports Complex were built. A slough in the middle of town was drained and a park was developed with a cenotaph as its center piece. I also was very active with the Chamber of Commerce serving both on local and provincial executives for a number of years.

In addition to civic services, for years I held various positions of leadership in the local church and church conventions, both at the provincial and national levels. I maintain I could never have served as I did without the ongoing support of my dear wife.
