A FAMILIAR SITE FOR PORT HASTINGS IN 2005 - This Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia Railway train has just crossed the Canso Causeway from mainland Nova Scotia with its cargo for one of the industries at Point Tupper or Sydney.
Between 1901 and 1927, trains carried coal from the mines in Inverness to the Inverness Coal and Railway Company's shipping pier at Port Hastings. The approach to the 600 foot long pier was a trestle on high ground in the present day area of the Tourist Information Bureau seen just at the top of the incline on the left.
