STRAIT OF CANSO IN 1980 - View in 1980 looking south over the Canso Causeway and Canal towards area where automobile and train ferries had crossed the Strait of Canso from Mulgrave on mainland Nova Scotia and Port Hawkesbury and Point Tupper on Cape Breton Island until 1955.By 1980, many industries were located along the shores of the deepest ice free body of water with ample room for the largest of tankers to enter and turn.
