C.P.B. was employed as a dump truck driver at the Toronto Brick in 1945. He worked with 27 German prisoners. He recalled that they had their own cooks who prepared huge hot meals at noon.

In about 1960, C.P.B. returned to the brickyard to buy some bricks. He recognized one of the workers as a former prisoner of war who had returned to Canada from Germany.

Shortly after the war ended, vandals smashed the windows and window frames of the prisoner of war huts. On March 26, 1946 a fire destroyed the last four POW huts. Due to their light frame construction and tarpaper roofs, the huts burned quickly. Firemen had little chance to subdue the flames as they had to lay 1200 feet of hose to combat the flames. The actual value of the destroyed property was negligible, but Fire Chief Paveling lamented that the lumber was badly needed elsewhere.
