Kathryn Ladd's childhood at sea was relatively uncommon at the turn of the 20th century although in earlier years many captains' children spent a good part of their childhood with their parents voyaging to many parts of the world. What is nice about Kathryn's adventures is that she was old enough to remember the time aboard ship and that she was able to tell us about those times in both audio and visual formats. The National Film Board's film "Empty Harbours, Empty Dreams" features Kathryn Ladd, in her garden, speaking of those early days of her life.
