American Clipper, docked at Botwood

62

Throughout World War II the Pan Am operation in Botwood was operating successfully, completing 455 flights between the years of 1939 and 1945. During the war years, the primary responsibility of the flying boats was to carry dignitaries and supplies from North America to Europe. It was inevitable though, that after the war these flying boats would see the end of their reign as the new land-based aircraft took over the skies. Always a pioneer in the aviation industry, Pan Am remained strong and still transports passengers today.
