At a time when pilots had previously had to rely on navigation from maps and visual cues such as rivers or cities, the development of systems such as OBOE (and other navigational radar finding aids such as GEE and LORAN) greatly improved the accuracy and precision of aircraft navigation. They have also had a lasting impact on navigation today.
