Manufacturing processes were also changed, printed circuit boards (PCBs) appeared. These simplified wiring which in the past had wires running from components mounted on terminals to other points. These wires all had to be measured, stripped, terminated and soldered. PCBs on the other hand had components mounted on a board with their pigtails going through the other side where they were soldered to tin plated copper foil paths. This saved an enormous amount of time and even more so several years later when components were machine inserted and boards were soldered by a wave solder machine.
