A magnetic compass was essential on board any boat. This would have been used for finding trawls and nets in foggy weather and for locating the harbour entrance when returning home.

In addition to those supplies mentioned, the necessary spare parts for the engine and supplies including gasoline and hard grease would also be kept on board. Fishing gear such as trawl lines, lead squid and cod jiggers complete with lines, would be carried regardless of the fishing activity. Bait such as squid or caplin for trawls might be caught in season on the way to the fishing grounds.
