Lewis Lumber was originally begun by another group in the 1950's .

In the 1980's it was one of the few saw mills in the country able to produce lumber up to 32 feet in length. The company owned approximately 20,000 acres of woodland. Lewis employed some 50 local people. The company's major markets were overseas in England and Ireland., and in the Atlantic Provinces. They had subcontracted portions of land with local people for development of a Christmas tree business.
