The chain saw has been modified and re-designed since its birth, with the goal to make it lighter, more efficient and safer. The explosive, major developments in one-man chainsaw innovation mostly took place in the 1950's. The chain brake saved a lot of lives since it appeared, a little later. Since 1965, weight reduction, noise and vibration reductions have been the main focus for innovation. Remarkably today's chainsaw is very similar to the first lightweight models which appeared in 1965.
