On 16 April 1945, a Liberator aircraft, on an operational test flight, with a crew of six and two passengers ditched into the sea one mile off the coast of Scotland. Flight Lieutenant Theodore "Blanchard " Atkinson, the wireless operator, was one of the crew.
Flight Sergeant Claude Ralston Newell was a member of the eleven member crew of Liberator aircraft #BZ 945 which failed to return from and anti-sub patrol on the Bay of Biscay 17 April 1944. It is believed that their failure to return was the result of enemy action.
