North Bay's Gateway
1925
North Bay, Ontario, Canada

After 1925 North Bay slowly began to diversify economically. Prior the community was strictly a rail community with the local economy very tightly tied to it.

The upgrading of the Ferguson Highway in the 1930's and its extension farther into northern Ontario as well as the completion of the city's airport allowed more tourists to visit the area and what it had to offer. Hunting, fishing, camping, and other attractions such as the Dionne Quints made North Bay more the just a rail town. It truly became the "Gateway of the North".
