Another activity that was eagerly welcomed by the people and the pupils was the Christmas Concert which was held in the old community hall. We practiced in the school until the last week then rode the mile to the community hall for a practice. Shilo and Wooler schools joined with South Fork for this. On concert day, the hall was packed with parents and neighbors who came to watch.
The Christmas program took place in the village hall in Caroline.
We would walk from the school to the hall every day for a week before the program to practice our plays and songs. We had lots of fun and the children were good. They ranged in ages from six to eighteen.

The Christmas concert was a highlight for young and old, and doubly so in those early days, as it marked the end of the school term. Children didn't have to go to school through the worst of winter. At that time the students drew names and exchanged small gifts around the bright tree.

Harvest Time
Often in the Fall of the year, many of the older boys would miss school in order to help at home and at the neighbours with the fall threshing. It was great to miss school, but then they had to work much harder to catch up when they returned.
