The service station provided gasoline pumps at the street. The station attendant would pump the hand lever on the side of the bowser. This would bring fuel from the underground storage tank up to the graduated, glass measuring tank on top. The attendant kept track of the amount of fuel you purchased before it was released (gravity-fed) down the hose to your fuel tank. Bulk gasoline and diesel fuel were also delivered to farms.
