From 1977 to 1996, Ottawa made the playoffs a total of 13 times with a one Grey Cup appearance in 1981 in which they lost to Edmonton 26-23. With poor seasons in the 1980s and the 1990s, the Rough Riders decided to cease operations in 1996, citing poor attendance and financial reasons, thus ending the 120 years of Rough Riders football.
