During the 1980s and 1990s, Langis Dubé, an independent deep-sea diver, made more than 350 dives to the wreck. His passion for this ship's history led him to build one of the country's largest collections of objects from the wreck. For many years, Langis Dubé was based in Sainte-Luce-sur-Mer in order to be close to the Empress of Ireland. He only had to travel a few metres to launch his inflatable and proceed to the site of the wreck.

Langis Dubé is one of the principal collaborators of the Musée de la Mer, to which he has given and loaned many objects.
