"There were no picture shows to go to, nor television or radio. The people made their own entertainment. After the school was built, it became the social centre for the community. Dances, card parties, showers for girls in the district who were getting married, Silver and Golden Wedding Anniversary parties for the married couples were all held at the school. In later years bingo games became very popular. Sometimes a box social or a pie social would be held in conjunction with a dance. They were great money raisers. The ladies would bring a decorated box filled with good things to eat or a pie. That would be their admission to the dance. At the supper hour the box or pie, whichever it happened to be, would be auctioned off to the highest bidder."

When large groups gathered, large containers were required. At socials and picnics these metal containers were used along with crocks and cream cans.

"District folk put on several plays during the 1920's, 30's and 40's. These were always put on during the winter. Rehearsals were held at the school or different homes, with the people travelling to and from by horse-drawn caboose. There was usually a dance Friday nights at some schoolhouse during the winter months. The admission was usually 50 cents for men and ladies were free if they brought lunch. A live orchestra always supplied the music. The Lambeth Walk was popular for a while. Schottisches were always good. If you had a steady guy, Supper Waltz, Moonlight Waltz, Lady's Choice and Home Sweet Home were saved for him."

The front area of the school was usually the performance corner. Desks were pushed to the outside and chairs were used for programs or the space was left empty if dances were held.
