"There's a picture of the farmhouse on the wall, lot 24 Concession 2, Township of Scarborough. [Now the site of Scarborough Civic Centre] I remember my Dad ordering something from the city and he'd say one mile east of Ellesmere off the Kennedy Road and that was where our farm was".

"It was a one storey house and, of course, it had no heating. I think my father put a furnace in it and then he remodelled it and built a second story on it. [It was built in] 1854 and he remodelled it in 1926. It was owned by a man named Elliott, I don't know the first name, but he evidently sold the north half. It was all one farm, 200 acres from Ellesmere up to Sheppard and he sold 90 acres to one of his sons and my great grandfather bought the south 115 acres".

Young Bill Walton, standing outside his family home, sporting a band uniform hat and clutching a coronet. The hat and coronet are two of various family treasures that Bill has donated to the Scarborough Historical Museum. They were used in the Malvern Band circa 1919 by Bill's father, John Walton. Malvern, like Bendale, was one of the many crossroads communities that made up early Scarborough.
