Gimli has had a rich and diverse cultural life. Artistic, recreational, religious aspects of the community are well represented.

The influence of the arts was apparent early in the development of the community with all areas of the arts well represented. The artistic elements of the life of the community have included all areas of the arts from literature, to visual arts, to music.

Music has been very influential in the community. Early evidence of the musical talents of the community include the composition of the Gimli Waltz (see also next photo). Local dance bands have been an important part of the community and essential to early community gatherings. The role of music is also seen in the gathering in households and singing, playing music and dancing.

Church life has always been an integral part of the life of the community. The first church in Gimli was a Lutheran Church built in 1891, on first Avenue. In 1914 a new Lutheran church was built on the corner of Third Avenue and Second Street. In 1952 that building was replace and it continues to be used as a Lutheran place of worship.
