Even though BC lost this was the start of something big for the Lions.

In 1984, it was the same result in the regular season by being in first place, but got shocked by Winnipeg 31-14 in the West Final. In the 1985 season, BC finished on top of the Western Division with a 13-3 record. It looks like nothing was going to stop the BC that season, and nothing did that year. BC easily defeated Winnipeg 42-22 in the West Final, and finally Hamilton in the Grey Cup 37-24 claiming their second Grey Cup in team history.

In 1986 the Lions took a slight step back by finished in second place with a 12-6 record. BC still made the playoffs and defeated Winnipeg 21-14 but could not get pass Edmonton, who defeated them 41-5 in the West final.

In 1987 BC once again finished in first place in the West Division, in which they did without Don Matthews who was released during a three game losing streak at the beginning of the season, and ike last season, BC once again lost to Edmonton in the West final 31-7.

In 1988, BC finished in third with a 10-8 record but still managed to reach the Grey Cup to play Winnipeg. At the end Winnipeg narrowly defeated BC 22-21.

After a 6-11-1 and last place in 1990, the 1991 season was considered a success. In that season, the Lions finished with an 11-7 record and a third place finish in the division. With the third place finish, the Lions returned to the playoffs and played in the West semi-final game against the Calgary Stampeders. In that game, BC lost by two points 43-41 and ended their season.

In the 1992 season, BC had one of the worst starts in their history by going winless in the first eight games of the season. With that horrid start, the Lions failed to reach the playoffs and finished the season by going 3-15. In the 1993 season, the Lions bounced back with a 10-8 record and reached the playoffs where BC played Calgary and ultimately lost 17-9 in the west semi-final.

In 1994 BC was off to an 8-1-1 start, and finished the season with an 11-6-1, well enough for a third place finish and the playoffs. BC once again made it to the Grey Cup by defeating Edmonton and Calgary in the West. In the Grey Cup, BC was playing against Baltimore once again in Vancouver. With many considered this the best Grey Cup played, it was hard to argue with. The conclusion of the game was with Lui Passaglia kicking the winning field goal from 38 yards out. With that kick BC won their third Grey Cup, their first since 1985.

In 1995, BC finished in third place in what was known as the North Division (this was due to U.S. expansion) with a 10-8 record and played Edmonton in the semi-final. Edmonton got the best of BC by a final score of 26-15. The next time BC made the playoffs in this decade was in 1998 and in 1999. Both seasons ended with a defeat in the playoffs by the hands of Edmonton and Calgary respectively.
